CNA Classes in Illinois

If you are sixteen (16) years of age or older you can apply to be a CNA in the state of Illinois. You must enroll and complete a state approved training course. You must be able to prove that you have the equivalent to an eighth grade education. According to the Illinois Department of Public Health facts concerning certified nursing assistants, you must be honest, trustworthy, of good moral character and reliable. You cannot have been convicted of a crime, nor can you have been found to have either abused or neglected patients in a previous state.

The Department of Public Health is the agency which watches over the approved CNA training programs. The approved programs do not have a set amount of required instructional hours. The programs generally operate within a six (6) to ten (10) week time frame. If you have already taken a nursing class such as nursing 101, fundamentals of nursing, or basic nursing, you can bypass the CNA training course and move right on to taking the state examination.

CNA students are instructed in many things. Some of those classes would include how to take care of patients with personal needs such as bathing, brushing their teeth, how to assist with basic medical procedures, patient rights, taking of vital signs, etc.

Approved program tuition varies depending where the applicant takes their courses. Fees range from $600 to $2000.
